Instructions for printing from PC and Windows 95/98 to BLP Elite.
Please note: GCC does not guarantee that the BLP Elite will work with every PC in the
market. We have been successful printing from a PC to a BLP Elite here in GCC's labs. However,
not all of our customers have had success printing to the BLP Elite from Windows 3.1 or
Windows 95/98. We have found that many customers simply cannot find the proper cabling, so be
sure you are using a RS232 Null Modem cable. If you follow these instructions completely and
are 100% sure that you have the correct cable, and still cannot print to the BLP Elite from
your PC, then it is possible that your PC will not work with the BLP Elite.
- Attach a RS-232C Serial Cable and a Null modem adapter.
-
Connect the RS-232C cable (with the null modem adapter attached) to the PC and to the BLP
Elite. The Elite has a 25 pin RS232 female DB25 port.
These cables can be purchased at Radio Shack. Here are part numbers for particular Radio
Shack Cables. The cables/adapters you need will be determined by the pinouts on your
PC.
- Cat # 26-269
Radio Shack 6 ft. Shielded RS-232C cable, male DB25 to Female DB9, shielded and grounded
to prevent interference
- Cat # 26-264A
Radio Shack Female DB9 to Male DB9 null modem adapter, shielded and grounded

Settings. A Window will open to the right and display Control Panel, Printers, and
Taskbar..., Select Printers.
-
You will have a choice of adding a printer by clicking on the Add Printer Icon, or
selecting a printer that is already installed on the system. We suggest using the Appler
LaserWriter Driver supplied with Windows 95.
If you have the Apple LaserWriter installed:
(If you do not have the Apple LaserWriter use "Add Printer Wizard" to install the
driver and follow these steps.)
- Highlight the LaserWriter Icon by clicking once on it.
- Click on File and scroll down to Properties and click on it.
- A dialog box will appear that will allow you to make choices on how your BLP Elite
will be setup.
- Select Details from the folder tabs on top and go down to the box that reads "PRINT TO
THE FOLLOWING PORTS".
- To the right of the box is a down arrow. Click on the down arrow to select the correct
port. It will be Com 1, 2, 3 or 4. Refer to your owners manual on your PC for information on
what ports are available.
- After selecting a port go to the bottom of the dialog box and Click on the Port Settings
icon.
-
A new dialog box will appear that will allow you to select the following settings.
- Baud Rate: 9600
- Data Bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop Bits: 1
- Flow Control: XON/XOFF or HARDWARE depending on your configuration.
(See Note on bottom of this page.)
- Click on OK. You are now back in the previous dialog box. Click on Apply in the lower
right corner.
- You are now back at the Printers Box and ready to Print.
- Print a document. If your document does not print, look at the front panel of the BLP
Elite. Is there any error messages? If not, check your cable connections and your COM port.
Be sure you are using a RS232 Serial Cable AND a Null Modem Adapter. Also, be sure you are
printing to the correct COM port.
*Note: If this setting will not allow you to print, try selecting DTR in place of XON/XOFF
under Menu item RS232 Flow Control on the printer's front panel. Go back to the Start Button,
scroll up to settings, and select Printers. Highlight the LaserWriter icon. Click on Files, and
then scroll down to Properties and click on it. Select Details from the folder tabs and click
on the Port Settings Icon on the lower right side of the dialog box. Under Flow Control, select
HARDWARE from the settings option box in place of XON/XOFF.
